Burnt Money

Well, I did something stupid. The laptop came with a $250 mail-in rebate. But to utilize that you need the UPC barcode that was on the box. And that is at the local landfill since I sat it out with the trash on Friday. Sweety is really pleased. I think a quote from him would be "You know what? You do some really boneheaded things sometimes." I guess I do. It makes my stomach hurt to think about it so I won't.

We really rang in the New Year in a big way! We went out to eat and had the worst dining experience EVER. My food was burnt and the waitress was as useless as tits on a boar hog. I've never been anywhere where they really burnt my stuff. But it was crowded and we were pissed and didn't bother to complain. We'd went to a bar before eating (while waiting for a table at the restaurant) and I gave the girl at the bar who brought me potato chips a better tip than the restaurant waitress got. After dinner we were both grouchy and tipsy so we just came on home instead of going back to the bar. I was in bed by 11:00. I think this is the first New Year's Eve in 12 or 13 years that I haven't had a good luck kiss at midnight. Oh shit, and today is when I realized that I threw out the laptop box. Surely this is not a sign of what 2006 has in store for me.

The boys and I watched March of the Penguins tonight. I loved it! My favorite part was the penguin fuck scene. I do find birds mating interesting. And I really hated seeing some of the baby birdies freeze because of their parent's negligence. I'll fast forward through those parts the next time I watch it.

Don't feel too bad about throwing away the UPC...I've done the same damn thing...many times. Sorry that your dinner sucked....I would've still said something to the manager....you might have got a free dinner, or some type of comp. Don't let it get you down, go watch some penguins fuck, and be happy. LOL!!!!

We've eaten there a lot and one other time had really bad service. We complained and it was just a waste of breath. It was the same manager there last night so we didn't even waste our time. If I'd have know that I had bird porn, I'd have just stayed in last night and watched that.

You've got some weird-ass bird issues, woman.

Happy new year!

I would have complained. Busy is no excuse to burn someones food and not be a good server.

Ahh this does not bode well, my dear Chickie!! Burnt Offerings??? No! That is not supposed to be....And Rebate Boxes in The Landfill???

Well, think of it this way...these things actually happened before the new year so you are A-O-K!!! (lol)...

I do dearly wish you the BEST 2006 possible and may all your dreams come true!!!

You may want to try sending everything in excerpt the UPC and see what happens. A couple of years ago, Best But started getting investigated by several state attorney generals for not honoring rebates even if all conditions were complied with. So they overcompensated by having their rebate processor be super lenient. And if they do say something, see if there's something else they accept.

I would have said something at the restaurant. If they can't cook my food properly then they better do it again. Remember, cooking is their job.

I would agree with MCB here. Send in the original receipt along with an explanation of what happened, asking them very politely if they would please still send you the rebate. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh? Just be sure though to make a photocopy of the original receipt to keep in your records - for warranty purposes - in case you need to get warranty work done at the store later on where you bought it. Good luck.

I didn't get to kiss Mark at midnight, either, because he was in the middle of a field shooting off fireworks. Sorry about the UPC. That sucks, but that rebate wasn't the ONLY reason you bought the computer, is it?

I hope the advice above helps you get that rebate. Starting the year losing $250 isn't a good omen!

Happy New Year, my friend!

Anne Arkham - Birds intrigue me. It can't be helped.

Kat - If we hadn't dealt with that same manager's apathetic attitude before then we would've complained. It just wasn't worth getting any more pissed off over. I was already at my daily limit!

OOLOTH - It is comforting that the bad things happened in 2005. I hadn't thought of it that way.

MCB & Rob - I am going to try for the rebate and see what happens. At the most, I'll just be out a stamp.

Mollynormal - If you say so! I'm going to make you responsible if it isn't! :)

Bekah - I guess we would've bought Sasha even without the rebate so I'm trying to not be to disgusted over it.

At least you and Mark were awake at midnight!

Chuck - Hopefully, the rebate will work out!

L - Thank you!

Zube Girl - I ADORED the penguins. I'm gonna watch it again soon.

I watched that movie last night too! Great Stuff.. I was pissed when the other bird comes along attacking the babys and the mom penguins did nothing to protect them. Actually, I think nature maybe a little messed up, but it was a great movie! Sorry your dinner sucked, I hate when that happens.

So if those long-legged birds were fucking in the street rather than just standing there, you'd be ok with it?

I am so sorry about your New Year's Eve.

On the rebate... I'm just curious, but the store where you bought it... didn't they scan it? If they scanned it... might they have a record of the UPC Code if they could connect the purchase to your receipt? Just a thought.

I hate mail in rebates!!

Hope 2006 gets much, much better for you!

Jess - I hated seeing the birds die. I was thinking "come on, can't the cameraman tamper with nature just once?"

Anne Arkham - Yes. If the birds were getting it on instead of just lollygagging around, I'd be okay with it. I'd probably make some popcorn and watch them.

Amy - I'm going to go to the store today and see if the rebate can be done any other way. I'm not too hopeful though. My receipt has a copy of the UPC and we bought a warranty for it so I know they have record of our purchase. Even if they tell me no, I'm going to write in for it anyway.

Mike - If one person can learn from my mistakes, I'll have made the world a better place.
