Technologically Retarded

Can anyone point me in the direction of a program (free would be nice) that will allow to you to rip a movie from a dvd and email it? I will not tell you how much of my life that was wasted today downloading different programs in an effort to do this. I'm on a mission now.

I doubt there's any email program that would allow you to email something so large. You might have better luck uploading it to a file-sharing site. Of course, I can't think of any right now...

If you're on a mac, there are two programs: MactheRipper and HandBrake. HandBrake is my fave of the two. It can even make backup copies of your (legally owned, I assume) purchased DVDs.

Emailing is a whole different thing. Sine even a tiny, super-compressed movie is going to be quite sizable at feature-length, I think you're going to run into issues there regardless.

There are whole websites devoted to how to do this but very few programs programs that do everything required in a few clicks because that would get the MPAA after the program's authors. DVD ripping programs are illegal since they bypass the copy protection. That doesn't mean that they aren't out there; it just makes them harder to find. And, once you've ripped it the resulting file is HUGE. Much too large to mail.
