I Never Take The Obvious

One morning, many moons ago (when I lived in Texas), I walked to the icebox to get something to eat. On the icebox I had this mail-holder thing that you put envelopes in and it was full of mail. On on of the envelopes, there was something much like this:

Alien?

The thing on the envelope's eyes were closed (napping, I guess) and it was totally sitting on it's feet so it looked like a gigantic booger. I'd never seen anything like this mysterious green blob before and the first thing that came into my mind was "Tiny aliens! Wow! Where are the rest of them?" I poked it with the corner of an envelope but it didn't move. Then I looked on the countertops but didn't find any of his brethren and when I was fixing to scoop it into a glass for further study, it opened it's eyes and hopped away. That's when I realized it was frog.

I'm in the shower last night and had propped my foot up on the edge of the tub to wash it when I noticed a blob of something on the tub floor. It looked like cement. And my first thought was "What the hell is this that just fell out of my coochie? Is it gonna move?!" I turned off the shower so I could examine it closely and found that it was a glop of the stuff that I use to scrub my face with.

I should probably start going with more plausible ideas as to what things are when they take me by surprise. Not everything is an alien baby.

I've got a question for you - At what age is a kid old enough to spend the night home alone?

or maybe you need glasses?

I was 16 or 17 when my mom left me alone fort he first time. I certainly wouldn't go any younger than that, I was mature. Course, I'm not a parent...

I think I need to turn my imagination down a notch or two.

Thanks for the opinion on age. We are having an issue over here and I thought that my thinking was right. You helped confirm it.

Ewwww Shower spuge and frog stank.

The age a child can be left alone depends on the kid. 16 would be my minimum if he/she wasn’t a complete sociopath.

I was waiting for you to tell me that an alien frog had fallen out of your coochie. I am glad you didn't say that and sorry that I did.

I think in some ways it is up to the kid. When is he or she comfortable with it and how responsible are they? My son started staying at home a time or two when he was just shy of 15. We checked on him as often as we could and he was cool with it.

My oldest daughter is 31 and I am not sure she could be trusted to stay home alone yet.

Hmmm, I let Ethan (15) watch the girls for a few hours at a time. I've never left them alone overnight though.

I might consider it at some point, but only because my mom lives less than 5 minutes away.

When I say at some point... I mean distant future when Ethan has his own driver's license, but only because I'd want him to be able to drive in case of an emergency. But, I also wouldn't leave him alone, overnight, in charge of the girls because I think that's too much responsibility.

Joey Polanski - You are full of good advice. Thank you.

Hey, everybody! Thanks for your input!

BB (who turned 12) in November is supposed to be watching his siblings (ages 4 and 1.5) on Saturday night at his cuntofamother's from around 8:30 p.m. til the bar closes. I have a problem with this. I was just wondering if I had a stick up my butt about the whole thing or what.

LMAO I can't even give a comment about the frog/shower part.... OMG you kill me Chickie!

Age... well I think when a kid is about 15-16 they can stay alone at night but not ALL night and not be responsible for younger ones.

Jen - The bad part is, I had my contacts on in the shower!

Patti_Cake - Sweety read about the frog/shower thing last night and he hasn't stopped picking on me.

I'm with you on the age thing!

Cooter frogs.....makes me want to go eat...ha! And kids alone? All alone? While you leave? Hahahahahahahahhahahaa.........ah good luck. I NEVER left mine alone overnight (they're almost 20 and 19 now) and I have no plans to leave my younger 2 alone when they get older. Call me paranoid. LOL

Sassy - I think there's nothing wrong with being paranoid when worrying about your kids. It's better than going the other way with it.

I was an extremely responsible teen, and I had far too much responsibility. AND I was left with my siblings a lot. But never overnight. I was 15 or older, and They were at least 4. Big difference. I don't think that BB should have that sort of pressure and responsibility. It isn't fair to him. What if something happens? Are you guys close enough to arrive in case of emergency? This really bothers me...

We're about 15-20 minutes away. I just don't think he's responsible enough for this. Especially not with 2 small kids. I really don't like the whole thing because it is at night and I know if something happens or he freaks out that we'll probably be the ones that he calls since his mom will be at a concert in a bar. And I've been in the bar so I know you can't get any cell phone coverage in there. I just don't think a kid that you have to remind to brush his teeth and make his bed EVERY SINGLE DAY is ready to pull a 6 hour, nighttime babysitting stint.
