Happy, Holey, Half-Nekkid Thursday!

My Grandpa died in the summer of 1992, when I was 15 years old. The only thing of his that I wanted was his flannel jacket. I still remember seeing him walk all over town with it on and it was funny how picky my Grandma was about how it should be washed. (woolite, cold water, air dried)

I've worn it to work almost every day for the past 4 years. When I'm sitting at my desk, I usually sit with my left elbow on the desk and use my left hand to prop my head up. And now I have a hole in that part of my jacket.

I didn't realize a hole was forming until it was already there. I'm gonna try and quit wearing it so much but I'm quite attached to it. I'm thinking of teaching myself how to sew so I can turn the jacket into a little teddy bear.

Happy HNT!

Can you sew (or have someone sew) a patch on the elbow? That way you can keep wearing it.

What a sentimental post; happy HNT!

That'd be really cool if you could turn it in to a teddy bear. Or take it to someone and have them turn it into a teddy bear.

After my Pop-Pop passed in October my Mom brought back all his square dancing shirts, my mother-in-law is making a quilt for my mom, and pillows for each of my girls out of them and one for me. I think a teddy bear would be awesome, you'd probably have enough to make a pillow also.

It will be great whatever you decide to make of it.... sometimes just having it hanging in the closet where you see it daily can be a pleasure. I have a coat like that...

cheers! K

I can relate. Sew the shirt. Put in elbow patches. You can find that material or something close/matching easily enough. Go to fabric store. :-) HHNT!

Yeah, Chickie...if you still want to wear it, I'd think about the patch idea...How dear that you have this shirt and love it so much...I can understand it....You can always make a Teddy Bear out of it if the Patch idea doesn't work...Good Luck with that my dear, Chickie...

hmmmm makes me think way back myself now... only thing I wanted was the ol rockin chair that grandpa sat in looking out the window, talking about the neighbor's, spit toon can beside the ol rocker, sigh. It sits now in my living room and still creaks the same way it always did. Thanks for the memory! Try the patch for a while, you can make the teddy later. ;-)

This is such a sweet tribute to your grandpa. I'd mend the elbow so I could keep wearing it. Happy HNT.

Thank you all for your comments! I'd thought about doing a patch but then changed my mind because it would make the jacket different. But I think I'll do it as a last resort. I really do like wearing it. Maybe after I wear out a patch I'll turn it into a teddy bear or something.

Joey Polanski - That had never occurred to me. I'll be grateful now that it was the jacket that ended up with the hole.

Great story for a HNT. It shouldn't be that difficult to repair. HHNT to ya.

That is a sweet story, and a great jacket.

That's a cool idea. I have all my grandpa's sweaters, I use to wrap up in them and study even though they were three sizes to big.
